Seminole Clinic Rained Out: Wed, June 14
Due to heavy rain this morning from remnants of Tropical Storm Alberto, the fields at Darden Towe Park have been closed for this evening, June 14th. Therefore, Wednesday’s edition of the Seminole Lacrosse Clinic is cancelled. Thursday’s clinic will be held as usual, beginning at 6:30pm.
Thursday’s clinic will feature a visit from perennial Seminole favorite Doug Bartlett, who has been the head lacrosse coach at VMI for 21 years.
Bartlett, who currently ranks 13th amongst active Division I lacrosse coaches with 127 career wins, has had a host of major accomplishments since taking over the program in 1986. In 1992, Bartlett’s Keydets went 9-5 and were ranked in the Top 25 national lacrosse poll, becoming only the fourth team in VMI history to achieve that feat. A few years later, the 1995 VMI team also went 9-5 and once again received votes in the national poll.

CAYLC: Greensboro 2006 U-11 Results
[Report from Bob Crist]
I know that for some of you, the season has been over for a few weeks, but I thought that I would just give you an update of how the CAYLC U-11 team did this past weekend. Please keep in mind, that this is the first year in history that Charlottesville has sent a U11 team to these summer tournaments.
The team traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina this past weekend. Their first game was against Lake Norman, NC on Friday night. The team took an early lead and looked very comfortable in an 8-0 victory. Saturday morning, the team played the host Greensboro team and picked up a 10-3 win. In the afternoon, Charlottesville played the Winston-Salem All Stars and won 11-4.
The big game was on Sunday morning as the team played the All Stars from Charlotte. Both teams were undefeated in the tournament, and the Charlottesville parents noticed that the kids from Charlotte were, on average, much bigger than our kids, but our kids ended up doing very well against them. We took an early 1-0 lead and then found ourselves trailing 3-1. We scored a second goal just before halftime to draw the deficit to 3-2 at half.
In the second half, CAYLC’s goalie Alex Janssens, made a great save, but the ball still trickled in by an inch or two to give Charlotte a 4-2 advantage. After that, it was all Charlottesville, scoring 3 unanswered goals, and basically controlling the ball for probably about 90% of the rest of the game. Following the final horn, with a 5-4 victory, the boys did their own little “doggie pile” of 10 and 11 year old boys in the middle of the field. It was awesome!
The other age groups from Charlottesville also did very well, as well. Special thanks need to go to Brad Haws, Dick Abidin, Austin English and Michael Cross, who coach the U11 team. The team now travels to Cockeysville, Maryland this week for one more tournament before calling it a year.
