Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League will begin play at the St. Anne’s Turf Field on Sunday, June 17, 2012, beginning at noon. The opening day format will be a “player’s league” format; teams will be assigned next week.

Registration remains open and should be sent directly to Doug Tarring at dtarring@stab.org. If you wish to play, please include your cell number, age, position, present playing status, school affiliation, or past experience. Players wanting to be assigned to the same team must list all names with the same information.

Update: Coach Tarring requests that you send an email to dtarring@stab.org if you have already registered and are planning to play Sunday.

Payment is expected before players will be allowed to participate. In addition, if you register by email, please download and sign a registration form and bring it to the field with you.

The Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League is open to all men 15 and older; the cost of the league is $75 for players who have graduated from high school and $50 for high school players (up to rising seniors). All players 18 and under must be members of USLacrosse.

Wednesday evenings starting June 20th, Women’s Lacrosse will return to Darden Towe Park. The Seminole Women’s League will host pick-up lacrosse games from 6:30pm until 8:00pm. Games will run through July 25th. The cost is $30 for players who register before the June 15th, $35 afterwards.

The league will provide pennies and a lined field each week; participants should come ready to play with a stick, googles, and mouthguard.

Tonight’s Seminole Lacrosse Clinic will feature a talk by University of Virginia Women’s Head Coach Julie Myers. In each of her 17 seasons at the helm of the Cavaliers, Myers has guided her team to the NCAA Championships – a feat matched by no other Division I coach in the same period. Participants in both the Boy’s and Girl’s Clinics will have the opportunity to hear Myers before breaking out into practice groups.

In addition, the Seminole Lacrosse League has been carefully monitoring this afternoon�??s weather situation. There are predictions of scattered, short-lived thunderstorms, so there is the potential that the start of the Clinic may be delayed. However, at this time, it is anticipated that the Seminole Clinic will be held as scheduled.

Update 5:52pm. Based on analysis of real-time radar, the Seminole Clinic will be held as scheduled.

The Seminole League takes safety very seriously. As in most days in June, there is a chance of thunderstorms through the evening, so PLEASE do NOT drop your child off at Darden Towe Park and then leave! In case of unexpected severe weather, Seminole will temporarily suspend the clinic, ask participants to seek shelter in their vehicles, and hopefully restart the clinic as soon as conditions warrant.

The Seminole Lacrosse League will kick off its Silver Anniversary season tonight with a four-night clinic for boys aged 5 – 13. The clinic will be held at Darden Towe Park Monday through Thursday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00pm.

The League is pleased that, once again, University of Virginia Head Coach Dom Starsia and former VMI Head Coach Doug Bartlett will be speakers at the clinic.

If you would like your child to participate, but have not yet registered, simply download a registration application and bring it to the field tonight.

The purpose of the Seminole League Clinic is to educate and prepare players for participation in the Seminole League. It is for all players with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert. Points of emphasis include fundamentals, stick skills, rules, and fun. It is very important for beginners to attend the clinic before participating in the League.

Players should come to the first night of the Clinic with a stick and gloves. Players who have not signed up for the Clinic are welcome to attend; please bring a competed application form and a check.

The Seminole League sports an extremely high coach to player ratio, insuring that all participants receive individual attention. Many of Seminole�??s coaches are still active players themselves, and have played in collegiate, club, and international competition.

A Note About the League From Doug Tarring:
I strongly encourage players to sign up early to help with the selection of teams. In the past seasons, we have had team leaders present rosters that are not filled with adequate numbers. The goal is to create a balanced, competitive league with a player pool of varsity high school players, college, club, and local players.

In order to do this, the teams this summer will be finalized after the first week of play. A player must have a completed application and the league fee. Players may play the first week yet may be assigned to a different team to keep the numbers per team by position equal. A schedule for the first week will be published with the team rosters of enrolled players. I want to continue having each team composed of players that are present our past teammates.

For the 25th year, Darden Towe Park will once again become “Lacrosse Central” in June, as the Seminole Lacrosse League continues into its third decade. Seminole will kick off with a Clinic for boys aged 4-13 on June 11 – 14 (Monday – Thursday). League practices begin on June 18 and play runs through July 21.

For girls ages 6-16, the Clinic will be held June 12 – 14 at Darden Towe Park from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. (Tuesday through Thursday) The Girl’s League begins on Tuesday, June 19.

The “Player’s League” for boys ages 14 – 17 will start with a single practice on June 21. Games will be played Thursday evenings and Saturdays through July 21.

If there are two or more Saturday rainouts, there will be a single makeup date: Saturday, July 28. (Players�??s league, July 26.)

The Seminole Lacrosse League is an organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the great game of lacrosse in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. Seminole�??s goal is to give the youngsters of our area the opportunity to play and experience lacrosse, thus helping the game grow at the high school level.

The dates have been set for the winter SAW Lacrosse clinics. We will hold them on Sundays from 2-4 pm on Nov 6th, Dec 11th and Jan 15th at Ridgeview park until the weather forces us inside. The hope is to have enough interest to start an indoor league by February, then roll into the spring with another 4 day clinic at the park. The price will be $10 per session and registration will be on site. Ages 4 and up, girls and boys. Come join us for some fun and help establish lacrosse in the Valley!

The fledgling Fluvanna Lacrosse program garnered a little more publicity in its effort to establish varsity boys and girls teams at the school. NBC29 took another look at how the process is moving forward, especially with a new school being built for the county’s students. Fluvanna’s athletic director says that the money for the new program is being raised through a mix of donations, fundraisers and grants through US Lacrosse. Hopefully, they will have their first game this spring.
