Charlottesville to Kick Off Lacrosse Season with Inaugural “indoor WINTER laXgames”
The X-Games have nothing on Charlottesville. The weekend of January 26th, five area high schools will compete in the ACAC Lacrosse Academy’s inaugural “indoor WINTER laXgames”. Indoor lacrosse is a fast-paced, phrenetic sport, played in a basketball court-sized arena.
The team with the most wins over the course of the laXgames will take home the “cville-lax.com Cup” for display at their school over the next year.
The laXgames will take place at ACAC’s Adventure Central facility on Four Seasons Drive. Adventure Central is the home of ACAC’s Lacrosse Academies, which provide specialized instruction and agility training to boys and girls in both middle school and high school. ACAC also presents Sports Academies in Field Hocky and Baseball, run by some of the top coaches in sport.
The tournament format will feature squads playing four on four plus goalies, with games running a pair of 12 minute halves. Teams will consist of eight players/two goalies; substitutions will be allowed at the six minute mark. The first tournament session will run from noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday with a second session from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Sunday session and awards presentation will begin at 10:00 am and conclude by 4:00 pm.
High school programs that have committed to the laXgames include Albemarle High School, Charlottesville High School, Monticello High School, St. Anne’s-Belfield, and Western Albemarle High School (two teams). A limited number of additional slots are available; coaches need to contact als@acac.com or 434.242.6583 before next Tuesday to register additional teams.
The tournament schedule will be published the afternoon of Wednesday, January 23rd.
