Seminole League Set for 25th Season of Lacrosse

For the 25th year, Darden Towe Park will once again become “Lacrosse Central” in June, as the Seminole Lacrosse League continues into its third decade. Seminole will kick off with a Clinic for boys aged 4-13 on June 11 – 14 (Monday – Thursday). League practices begin on June 18 and play runs through July 21.

For girls ages 6-16, the Clinic will be held June 12 – 14 at Darden Towe Park from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. (Tuesday through Thursday) The Girl’s League begins on Tuesday, June 19.

The “Player’s League” for boys ages 14 – 17 will start with a single practice on June 21. Games will be played Thursday evenings and Saturdays through July 21.

If there are two or more Saturday rainouts, there will be a single makeup date: Saturday, July 28. (Players’s league, July 26.)

The Seminole Lacrosse League is an organization dedicated to the promotion and development of the great game of lacrosse in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area. Seminole’s goal is to give the youngsters of our area the opportunity to play and experience lacrosse, thus helping the game grow at the high school level.

The Seminole League sports an extremely high coach to player ratio, insuring that all participants receive individual attention. Many of Seminole’s coaches are still active players themselves, and have played in Collegiate, Club, and International competition.

SAW Winter Clinic Dates Set

The dates have been set for the winter SAW Lacrosse clinics. We will hold them on Sundays from 2-4 pm on Nov 6th, Dec 11th and Jan 15th at Ridgeview park until the weather forces us inside. The hope is to have enough interest to start an indoor league by February, then roll into the spring with another 4 day clinic at the park. The price will be $10 per session and registration will be on site. Ages 4 and up, girls and boys. Come join us for some fun and help establish lacrosse in the Valley!

Fledgling Fluvanna Lacrosse Program Profiled

The fledgling Fluvanna Lacrosse program garnered a little more publicity in its effort to establish varsity boys and girls teams at the school. NBC29 took another look at how the process is moving forward, especially with a new school being built for the county’s students. Fluvanna’s athletic director says that the money for the new program is being raised through a mix of donations, fundraisers and grants through US Lacrosse. Hopefully, they will have their first game this spring.

SAW Lacrosse holding clinic

Staunton Augusta Waynesboro Lacrosse (SAW Lacrosse) will be holding a youth clinic the week of August 8, 2o11 in Waynesboro. The multi-day clinic is scheduled to run every night from 6:00-7:30 pm from Aug. 8-11 at Ridgeview Park.

This is another exciting development in the enthusiasm for the sport in the region. Coming on the heals of a successful campaign to procure varsity and junior varsity teams in Fluvanna (see below), Brian Wilberger is again introducing the sport to new areas.

CSLL Weather Update: 24 July 2011

Update: 11:20am Based on real-time radar data, it appears that the storm will pass north of Charlottesville and will minimally impact the Darden Towe Park area. Therefore, today’s game will be played as scheduled.

The Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League has been carefully monitoring the large storm moving into the Central Virginia area. Any decisions regarding its impact on today’s CSLL game will be made closer to the noon start time.

Until that time, today’s game is currently planned to be played as scheduled, albeit with a possible late start. It is anticipated that a final decision will be made by 11:30 am.

All league players are invited to play today, weather permitting.

On Tuesday and Wednesday , July 19-20th, the Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League will host “CSLL Player’s League” games at 6:30pm at Darden Towe Park. All league players are welcome. There will also be an open league game on Sunday, July 24th at noon.

The final game for the 2011 Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League will be under the lights on the STAB turf field at 7:00 on Monday, July 25th.

The Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League has been carefully monitoring this afternoon’s weather situation. Based on real-time weather radar, it appears that the storms impacting the Central Virginia region will either be leaving the Charlottesville area by 6:30pm or have already passed.

Therefore, tonight’s game will be held as scheduled, albeit with a possible late start. All league players are invited to play tonight.

NBC29: Fluvanna County High School Preparing for Varsity and JV Lacrosse Programs

NBC 29 has a nice spot about Fluvanna County’s upcoming lacrosse program at Fluvanna County High School.

Fluvanna County rising senior Kelly Douma, who has played lacrosse for one year, said, “You can’t start a successful program without starting somewhere.”

Fluvanna boys club lacrosse assistant coach Brian Wilberger said, “We’re ready for this. This is something we’ve been waiting for for many a year. There’s been a lot of kids that have come and gone through Fluvanna County that have not had the opportunity to play varsity or JV sanctioned sport here for lacrosse, but now it’s right here. We’re knocking at the door. We’re ready to come right through.”
