The Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League has been carefully monitoring this afternoon’s weather situation. As of 5:19, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Albemarle County and Charlottesville area, including Darden Towe Park. Based on a review of real-time radar, it is not clear if the storm will pass through the area by game time. Therefore, tonight’s CSLL game between Green and Royal Blue is CANCELLED. A make-up date for the game will be announced at a later time.

Summer League 2009 Update, Rosters, Opening Schedule

The deadline for registration for the 2009 edition of the Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League was Tuesday, however, a limited number of slots remain open. If you wish to be assigned a team, please send an email to: webmaster@cville-lax.com with your name, age, position, and cell phone/contact number by 7:00am Sunday morning and come to Darden Towe Park at 11:30am Sunday.

Preliminary team rosters are listed below. Play begins on Sunday, June 21st. Opening day games will be played at noon and 1:15pm. No player will be issued a jersey or allowed to play without payment of the $75 registration fee. The league will once again feature upgraded, reversible game jerseys; players will be expected to wear the new jerseys (rather than jerseys from previous years) on the field.

Note that due to traffic on Pantops Mountain, midweek games will have a start time of 6:30pm, which is one half hour later than in previous years.

Seminole League Weather Update: June 17, 2009

Reports from Darden Towe Park are that the fields are saturated with water and are unplayable. Tonight’s Seminole Lacrosse League Clinic make-up evening is postponed until a later date. An alternate date will be announced in the future.

2009 Charlottesville Women’s Summer League Schedule Set

The Charlottesville Women’s Summer Lacrosse League has announced a season of Women’s Lacrosse, with games played on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at Darden Towe Park. The League will begin June 17th and will run through August 5th.

The League is open to all Women of high hchool age and older. All participants must be members of US Lacrosse. The league will furnish game jerseys; players are responsible for all other equipment.

In what is easily Charlottesville’s best lacrosse bargain, the cost of the League is only $20 per player. Applications are available here (www.cville-lax.com/documents/CWSLL_2009.pdf).

Seminole Swings Into Full Gear This Week

The 22nd year of the Seminole Lacrosse League kicks into high gear this week. Tonight, June 15, practices begin for the boy’s (ages 4 to 13) league at 6:30 at Darden Towe Park. Games begin Saturday.

Tomorrow evening, June 16, the three-night girl’s clinic starts at 6:30 at Darden Towe Park. The clinic will continue Thursday and Friday, June 18 & 19. The first girl’s practice will be Tuesday, June 23.

The purpose of the Seminole League Clinics is to educate and prepare players for participation in the Seminole League. It is for all players with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert. Points of emphasis include fundamentals, stick skills, rules, and fun. It is very important for beginners to attend the clinic before participating in the League.

The Seminole boy’s clinic will conclude Wednesday evening, weather make-up night. The Players league begins Thursday, June 18, with the single league practice.

Weather Alert: Updated 5:30pm
The Seminole Lacrosse League has been carefully monitoring this afternoon’s weather situation. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning due to a large thunderstorm is currently (5:30pm) impacting Albemarle County; however, based upon a review of real-time weather radar, this storm may be out of the Charlottesville area by 6:30pm. Therefore, a decision on tonight’s Seminole League clinic will be made at approximately 6:10pm.

Update: At 6:00pm, Charlottesville and Darden Towe Park is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning and is experiencing heavy rain and severe air-to-ground lightning. Therefore, tonight’s Seminole League clinic is CANCELLED.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS!
The Seminole League takes safety very seriously. Due to the continuing chance of thunderstorms, PLEASE do NOT drop your child off at Darden Towe Park and then leave! In case of unexpected severe weather, Seminole will temporarily suspend the practice, ask participants to seek shelter in their vehicles, and hopefully restart practice as soon as conditions warrant.
