The number one-ranked Virginia men’s lacrosse team will host a scrimmage against Georgetown University on Saturday, February 10th. The scrimmage will be played at the University Hall Turf Field and will begin at 12:15pm.

Coming off of an undefeated, National Championship season, the Cavaliers start their 2007 campaign a consensus number one, ranked first in the Inside Lacrosse magazine, Lacrosse magazine, and Face-Off Yearbook preseason polls. This year’s squad features 25 returning lettermen and six starters. In 2006, the Cavaliers finished the season ranked number one after going 17-0 and capturing their third NCAA title in eight seasons.

Georgetown is ranked number five in the nation, and in a coaches’ poll, has been picked as the favorite to win this year’s ECAC Conference title. The Hoyas finished the 2006 season with a 12-3 overall record and won the ECAC Lacrosse League Championship for the fifth time in the last seven years. Georgetown reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-straight year and for the eighth time in the last nine years. The Hoyas return eight starters and 34 letterwinners from last year’s team, led by honorable mention All-American selections Brendan Cannon (Haverford, Pa./The Haverford School) and Jerry Lambe (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale).

The Cavalier men open their season at home on Sunday, February 18th, against Drexel University. That game is slated to begin at 1:00pm.
