On October 29th, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Youth Lacrosse (CAYLC) U-16 team won the 2006 Ghost & Goblins Fall Lacrosse Tournament at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County.
CAYLC won the first game against Oakton, VA, 7-5. The offense was led by Connor McCollough (2 goals, 1 assist) and outstanding defensive play by Chris Macfarlane. In game 2, CAYLC defeated the host team, Bones Lacrosse, 10-2. Outstanding offense was displayed by Owen Van Arsdale (2 goals, 2 assists), Chapin Speidel (2 goals, 2 assists), Jack Viere (1 goal, 2 assists) and Michael Morris (3 goals), the defense was led by the play of goalie Kennon Miller.
Game 3 may have been the toughest of the event for CAYLC, at least in the first half. Pure Lax from Maryland opened the scoring early and each team traded goals until CAYLC scored two in a row to tie the game at the half, 5-5. With Billy Crist dominating the face-offs and stellar work in the goal by Austin Geisler, CAYLC scored 5 unanswered points to win the game 10-5. The offense was lead again by Van Arsdale, Morris and Speidel. Defensively, Reid Brannock and Julian Kroboth help shut down the Pure Lax offense in the second half.
In the Championship game, CAYLC played their best game at both ends of the field, overwhelming Williamsburg, 12-2. Contributing on the offense were Baird Snyder (2 goals, 1 assist), Turner Whitworth (1 goal, 3 assists), Owen Wagenstein (2 goals, 1 assist), Connor Round (2 goals, 2 assists) and Tyler Chappel (1 goal, 1 assist). Stellar defensive was turned by both long-stick middies, Ian Jumper and Josh Dâ??Antoni.
The CAYLC teams (U-11, U-13, U-15 & U-16) will next play in the Fairfax Fall Brawl on November 18th. The Charlottesville Chapter of USLacrosse and cville-lax.com congratulate the CAYLC U-16 team on this impressive tournament championship.
