Staunton Augusta Waynesboro Lacrosse (SAW Lacrosse) will be holding a youth clinic the week of August 8, 2o11 in Waynesboro. The multi-day clinic is scheduled to run every night from 6:00-7:30 pm from Aug. 8-11 at Ridgeview Park.

This is another exciting development in the enthusiasm for the sport in the region. Coming on the heals of a successful campaign to procure varsity and junior varsity teams in Fluvanna (see below), Brian Wilberger is again introducing the sport to new areas.

On Saturday April 2nd the UVA men’s lacrosse team will play Maryland at 12:00pm in beautiful Scott Stadium. This will be an amazing day for college lacrosse. The game will be played before the UVA Football team’s spring game.

Before this game the Charlottesville Chapter of US Lacrosse, in conjunction with ACAC and the UVA Bookstore will hold a free shooting clinic. Ben Rubeor, a UVA lacrosse alumni, along with his friends from the 2006 National Championship team, will host this free shooting clinic. The clinic will be geared toward elementary and middle school players, but all are welcome to attend. There will be contests and raffle prizes during the event which runs from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with an autograph session to follow.

The clinic will be held at the O-Hill field located at the corner of Alderman Rd and McCormick Rd (diagonally across from the AFC).

Virginia Men�??s Lacrosse Team scrimmages Navy @ 1:00PM on the astro turf field.  We will meet as a group to observe the game from an officials point of view.

• Training session is mandatory for anyone who wants to officiate in the Boys YMCA League, Boys Middle School Lacrosse League or JV and Varsity High School games this year.

* (officials who are already Level 1 & 2 Certified do not need to attend)

• Each participant will receive the USLacrosse MDOC Officials Level 1 & 2 Training Program Manual. The package contains:

1. 2010 NFHS Boys High School Rule Book

2. Detailed overview of the rules of the game and basic officiating mechanics

3. Level 1 & 2 Test and answer sheets

• Training Clinic will consist of a 1 ½ hour session discussing the basics of officiating and a walk through of the basic mechanics and field positioning under various game situations. We will then watch an officiating instructional DVD �??The 3^rd Team on the Field�?�

The US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion®, returns to the Baltimore Convention Center again this January. Billed as “the unofficial start to the lacrosse season,” this event annually gathers the very best the sport has to offer, and provides the sport�??s largest educational opportunity, with over 5,000 coaches, officials, program administrators and exhibitors in attendance.

Early-bird registration discounts for the Convention end Monday, November 15.  To register, head to the US Lacrosse website.

cville-lax.com has received a large number of emails this spring from parents wondering what opportunities there are available for their children to play in a league, attend a lacrosse camp, or become part of a travel team.

In order to assist parents, cville-lax has created a “Parents Resource Guide” which pulls together a list of all of the area’s lacrosse activities, grouped by season. The Guide also features links to the web sites of leagues and clinics not hosted by cville-lax.

Note that virtually all Charlottesville area lacrosse organizations require participants to be members of USLacrosse.

After a very successful fall season, the Blue Ridge Lacrosse Club is gearing up for its summer season. The high school teams continued their growth as individuals and as a team and, significantly, went undefeated at the George Mason 7v7 tournament in November.

The BRLC Middle School club team saw its largest numbers ever last fall. Nancy Haws, head varsity coach at Western Albemarle, will be the head coach for our middle school program, and is looking forward to continuing to develop the youth program this summer.

Blue Ridge team member Katie Rotanz from Salem was recruited to play at Virginia Tech, and will be attending Tech in the fall. The BRLC, the Charlottesville Chapter of USLacrosse, and cville-lax.com congratulate Katie on her success and wish her the best of luck!

Virginia head women’s lacrosse coach Julie Myers was honored as the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week, as announced by USLacrosse. She will be recognized on the CSTV broadcast of the Dartmouth-Notre Dame men’s lacrosse game on Saturday, March 17.

Myers led the Cavaliers to victories over Temple (18-8) and Penn State (13-6) last week. Virginia is off to a 5-0 start this season and is heading into a huge week. The Cavaliers square off against two unbeaten teams – hosting Maryland on Tuesday and traveling to top-ranked North Carolina on Saturday. Maryland head coach Cathy Nelson Reese was the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week last week.

Friday, March 23rdd through Sunday, March 26th, 2007 will see the return of the Albemarle Lacrosse Jamboree. This scrimmage-format event will be hosted at both Albemarle and Western Albemarle high schools, featuring teams from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.
