5:30pm: While there is a thunderstorm in the vicinity of Charlottesville at the present time, it is projected to pass through by Summer League game time (6:30pm). At this time, tonight’s CSLL games are on, however, be apprised of the possibility of a weather delay.
While much of the world is enjoying World Cup Soccer, the game of Lacrosse is getting ready to crown its own champions. In just over two weeks, the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships will open in London, Ontario, Canada. Twenty-one nations, including the U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan, and the Iroquois Nation, will compete in four divisions to be called “Best in the World”.
While the games may be in Canada, there is a strong connection to Charlottesville, Virginia. Team USA defenseman Ryan Curtis and midfielder Jay Jalbert played for the University of Virginia, as did Team Canada’s goalie Chris Sanderson and midfielder AJ Shannon.
Former UVa standout and Woodberry Forest Head Coach Mike Caravana is an assistant coach for Team USA. In addition, Charlottesville doctors Tom Schildwachter and Vito Perriello are the US team’s physicians.
The 2006 World Lacrosse Festival will be held in conjunction with the 2006 World Lacrosse Championships. Seminole League coaches Tom McCrystal and Rodney Rullman will be playing in the festival, which begins July 17th. McCrystal is a goalkeeper for the Bayswater Rocks from Perth, Australia (Master’s Division); Rullman will be in the goal for Team Toyota Lacrosse (Grandmaster’s Division).

The schedule and weather hotline for the Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League has changed. The new number is 434.220.4200. Note that is number is only for Summer League, the Seminole League hotline is unchanged.
Due to field conditions at Darden Towe Park, tonight’s Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League game between Green and Maroon is postponed. The game is rescheduled for 6:30pm, Thursday June 29th, in tandem with that evening’s Orange v. Gold game.
At this time, no decision has been made about this evening’s Seminole League Girl’s practice. A decision will be made later this afternoon.

Update, 2:30pm: Heavy rains are again sweeping through the Charlottesville area. Therefore, the June 27 edition of the Seminole Lacrosse League is cancelled. Saturday’s games are planned to be played as usual. As a reminder, Saturday’s schedule is:
8:30am - 10:00am: Seminole League Boy’s Games, 4-5 year olds
9:00am - 10:30am: Seminole League Boy’s Games, 6-10 year olds
10:30am - 12 noon: Seminole League Boy’s Games, 11-13 year olds
10:30am - 12 noon: Seminole League Girl’s Games
12 Noon - 1:30pm: Seminole League Player’s Games

On Sunday, July 2rd, Seminole League Coaches will be one of the volunteer non-profit groups pouring Adult Beverages at the Marshall Tucker concert at the Charlottesville Pavilion. All funds raised by the volunteers will benefit the Charlottesville Chapter of USLacrosse.
