Yesterday evening’s CSLL pickup game and the Woman’s Summer League game were both scrubbed due to a pop-up thunderstorm and associated lightning.

The CSLL pickup game is rescheduled for tonight, July 25th, at the St. Anne’s lower school turf field at 7pm. All players who have not paid the $25 registration fee are encouraged to bring it to the field this evening.

The Woman’s Summer League game is rescheduled for Wednesday, August 7th ay 6:30pm at Darden Towe Park, extending the season by one week.

Due to heavy rains today affecting field conditions and the threat of lightning associated with this afternoon’s weather system, the Women’s Summer League game this evening is cancelled. A makeup date will be announced in the future.

While today’s rain has cleared, the past few days of rain have rendered the fields at Darden Towe Park unplayable; Albemarle County has closed the park. Tonight’s opening practice for the Seminole League Girls division is canceled for this evening.

It appears that the rain in the Charlottesville area will have ended by game time at 6:30, so tonight’s final CSLL game at the STAB Turf Field is on. (Possibly with a bit of a late start.) If necessary, updated information will be available at 6:00 on this cville-lax.com as well as on the @lax_weather Twitter Feed.

It appears the line of showers heading impacting Charlottesville will be well out of the area by 6:30. Seminole Boy’s practices will be held as scheduled.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS!
The Seminole League takes safety very seriously. As in most days in June, there is a chance of thunderstorms through the evening, so PLEASE do NOT drop your child off at Darden Towe Park and then leave! In case of unexpected severe weather, Seminole will temporarily suspend the clinic, ask participants to seek shelter in their vehicles, and hopefully restart the clinic as soon as conditions warrant.

Weather conditions can change very quickly, so be sure to check for any updates before leaving for Darden Towe Park. Updates will be made to this post, as well as on the @lax_weather Twitter Feed.

With projected temperatures near 100 degrees, Sunday’s Charlottesville Summer Lacrosse League’s game is cancelled. Play will resume Tuesday.

In addition, the Seminole Women’s League will not host a make up game Sunday. The July 4th game, which was cancelled due to the heat, will be made up at a later date.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO PARENTS!

The Seminole League takes safety very seriously. Saturday morning is projected to host temperatures ranging from the mid-80s into the 90s. Seminole will play all levels, however, in order to safely accommodate the projected heat, will run shorter periods of play, require all participants to drink water during breaks, and coaches will be on the lookout for symptoms of heat exhaustion.

Please anticipate that sessions will likely finish in less than the usual hour and a half allocated for play. PLEASE do NOT drop your child off at Darden Towe Park and then leave!

It is also important for parents to prepare players for the anticipated conditions. The Seminole Lacrosse League asks you to:

1) Be sure that your child has adequately hydrated before coming to the field.

2) Be sure that your child comes to the field with enough water to stay hydrated. We remind parents that water, not sports drinks or sodas, are the best defense against heat-related issues. In particular, sports drinks are great for AFTER play, not during play.

3) Be sure that you instruct your child to drink plenty of fluids during breaks, whether or not they are thirsty.

4) Be sure that you instruct your child that if your child develops a headache or dizziness, develops nausea, or stops sweating despite the heat, he or she should IMMEDIATELY inform a coach so that they can intervene.

Due to the dangerously high temperatures today, as well as a threat of thunderstorms at game time, tonight’s Seminole Women’s League game is cancelled. The league is looking at the possibility of a make-up session on Sunday, July 8th.

It appears the thunderstorms in the Charlottesville vicinity will pass to the south. Seminole Girls practice at Darden Towe Park and CSLL at the STAB Turf Field will start as scheduled.
